Frequently Asked Questions
Gameplay Questions
How does Sudominos work?
Sudominos combines Sudoku logic with domino placement. You drag numbered dominoes onto a 6×6 grid, ensuring each row, column, and 2×3 box contains the digits 1-6 exactly once. Complete today’s puzzle by placing all dominoes correctly!
What are the Sudoku rules in Sudominos?
The rules are the same as classic Sudoku, adapted for a 6×6 grid:
- Each row must contain digits 1-6 exactly once
- Each column must contain digits 1-6 exactly once
- Each 2×3 box must contain digits 1-6 exactly once
Can I rotate dominoes?
No, dominoes have a fixed orientation. You can only place them horizontally or vertically on adjacent cells.
What happens if I place a domino incorrectly?
If a placement breaks Sudoku rules, the domino will bounce back and you can try again. There’s no penalty for incorrect attempts.
Features
Is there a hint system?
Yes! Click the HINT button to see the correct placement for the current domino. Use hints strategically to learn patterns and improve your skills.
Can I undo a placement?
Yes, you can backtrack if needed.
How do I mark impossible cells?
Tap on cells that you know cannot be filled with any valid number. This helps track your reasoning and prevents mistakes.
Is the game timed?
Yes! Your completion time is tracked from when you first place a domino until you complete the puzzle. Try to improve your personal best!
Puzzle Schedule
How often are new puzzles released?
A new unique puzzle is generated every day at midnight. Each puzzle is only available for 24 hours.
Can I play yesterday’s puzzle?
Currently, each puzzle is only available on its specific day. Make sure to play today’s puzzle before it’s gone!
Are puzzles the same for everyone?
Yes! Everyone gets the same puzzle each day, so you can compare your solving strategies with friends.
How many puzzles are there?
There’s 28,200,960 possible 6x6 sudoku grid solutions - but the clues and dominos we remove also form a big part of the puzzle. If you have a mathematical answer, I’d be really interested to hear.
Difficulty and Strategy
Are puzzles the same difficulty every day?
No, puzzles vary in difficulty. Some days will be easier, others more challenging. This keeps the game interesting!
Are there difficulty levels?
We try to have slightly easier puzzles at the start of the week, building in difficulty towards the weekend. There’s a lot of variation - an “easy” puzzle might still have a really difficult move.
What’s a perfect run?
A perfect run means completing the puzzle with:
- Zero hints used
- Zero incorrect placements
- Efficient completion time
Do you have tips for solving faster?
Practice is key! Start by identifying cells with the fewest placement options, use constraints from rows/columns/boxes, and develop pattern recognition over time. Check out our How to Play guide for detailed strategies.
