How to Play Sudominos

Sudominos is a unique daily puzzle game that combines the logic of Sudoku with the spatial challenge of domino placement. Each day, a new puzzle is generated that you can solve by placing numbered dominoes on a 6×6 grid.

The Basics

The Grid

Sudominos is played on a 6×6 grid, divided into six boxes arranged in a 2×3 pattern (two rows of three boxes). Each box contains 6 cells (2 rows × 3 columns).

The Goal

Your goal is to place all the dominoes correctly so that the completed grid follows classic Sudoku rules:

Dominoes

Each puzzle contains 12 dominoes that you need to place. Each domino shows two numbers that must be placed in adjacent cells (horizontally or vertically).

Tips and Strategies

Start with Constraints

Look for rows, columns, or boxes that already have several numbers filled in. These create constraints that limit where dominoes can be placed.

Look for Unique Placements

Sometimes only one cell in a row, column, or box can hold a specific number. Identify these “forced” placements to make progress.

Consider Box Boundaries

Remember that dominoes can span across box boundaries. A domino placed horizontally might have one number in one box and the other in an adjacent box.

Work Backwards

If a row needs a specific number and only one cell can accept it (due to column and box constraints), that’s your placement.

Practice Pattern Recognition

Over time, you’ll recognize common patterns in how dominoes interact with Sudoku constraints. The more you play, the faster you’ll become!

Advanced Techniques

Eliminating Possibilities

Systematically eliminate impossible placements. If a cell can’t hold certain numbers due to row/column/box constraints, mark it and work with what remains.

Chain Logic

Use logical chains: “If this domino goes here, then that domino must go there, which means…”

Daily Practice

Each day brings a new unique puzzle. Regular practice helps you develop stronger pattern recognition and logical reasoning skills.

After completing a puzzle, you can share your results with others. Challenge friends to beat your time!

Common Questions

Can I rotate dominoes? No, each domino has a fixed orientation. You can only place it horizontally or vertically (not diagonally).

What if I make a mistake? Incorrect placements will automatically bounce back. If you need to undo a correct placement, look for the undo button when available.

Are puzzles timed? Yes! Your completion time is tracked from when you first place a domino until you complete the puzzle.

Can I play previous puzzles? Currently, each puzzle is available for one day. Check back tomorrow for a fresh challenge!

Is there a difficulty level? Puzzles vary in difficulty, but there’s no difficulty selector. The challenge is part of the fun!
